The Center for Baptist Studies Presents:

The Oldest Baptist Church
in the South

First Baptist Church
Charleston
South Carolina

Founded in 1682, the "Mother
Church of Southern Baptists"
represents the beginnings
of Baptists in the South.

The current sanctuary was
built in 1822, a Greek style
building considered to be
among the most beautiful
buildings in Charleston.

The building is recognized
by the National Park Service,
and you can visit the church's
website
to learn more about
this historic congregation,
past and present.
